About the ingredients

Seeds and kernels

Psyllium, sunflower, sesame, pumpkin and flax are natural seeds and kernels that provide healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and fibre as well as delicious taste and texture.

Fibre from sugar beet, chicory and peas

Plant fibres are added to increase the overall fibre content, and to give the bread it´s lovely consistency.

Fiberfine

Fiberfine is natural, high-fibre gluten-free flour, made from high-amylose corn. The fibre in Fibrefine is known as ´resistant starch`, which has a beneficial effect on digestion, bacterial flora and the immune system. Read more about Fiberfine here.

Pea Protein

Complete vegetable protein from peas

Whey Protein

Whey Protein helps the bread to bind, and is a good source of high quality protein

Sukrin Sweetener

Sukrin Zero Carb Zero Calorie Natural Sweetener is purely made from the natural polyol erythritol, which is derived from GM-Free corn starch. It contains no artificial colours, additives or preservatives, and is naturally gluten-free. Sukrin Sweeteners are non-glycemic. Read more about Sukrin here.

Mineral Salt

We add a little salt for flavour: sodium chloride (table salt) is used along with potassium chloride, which replaces some of the regular salt to ensure sodium levels are kept to a minimum.

Raising agents

Bicarbonate and disodium phosphate are the ingredients of regular baking powder.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Sukrin Bread Mix

Is the nutritional information for baked bread?

The nutritional information is for bread cooked according to the instructions on the pack.

What is the nutritional information for the dry mix?

per 100g (with egg powder) 307kcal Protein 18.6g Carbohydrate 5.7g (of which sugars, 0g), fibre 45.2g, fat 18g, sodium 0.9g

What size loaf does one pack make?

A 210g pack of Bread Mix makes a 420g cooked loaf, the 1kg bag of bread mix makes 3 large 600g loaves. You can also make rolls of any size you like, either free form or in mini loaf tins, burger buns, hot dog rolls and more!

The GDA information on the pack shows a moderate amount of salt in the bread mix. Why is there this amount of salt?

The GDA (Guideline Daily Amount) by law includes not only a tiny amount of mineral salt, added to enhance flavour, but must also include the salts that occur naturally in the raising agents.

What are you using to replace the egg that used to be in the bread?

We use whey protein and flaxseeds to replace the egg, which has resulted in an lighter, springier and even more delicious bread.

What is whey protein?

Whey protein is a high-quality protein naturally found in dairy. It is a complete protein containing all of the essential amino acids (“building blocks”) your body needs and is easy to digest.

Those who are lactose intolerant or sensitive to dairy products can still consume whey protein, as it contains only a miniscule amount of lactose. (Those allergic to lactose may want to avoid whey protein).

What is flaxseed?

Flax seeds are small brown or yellow seeds, high in protein and fibre, with lots of beneficial oil and nutrients. When flax is mixed with water, it becomes glutinous, which made it perfect for binding recipes in place of eggs.

What is psyllium?

Psyllium husks act like a sponge in your body, gently absorbing water and waste material in your digestive system, helping to clear your body of harmful toxins, without causing any discomfort of unnatural urgency. This helps to prevent a clogged system which can lead to a build-up of toxins in the colon.

What is Sukrin Fibrefine? What is resistant starch?

Our Fibrefine fibre-rich white flour comes from a special type of corn grown in Australia that produces high levels of resistant starch. From non-GMO sources, this wonderful, beneficial flour is simply milled, finely ground and packaged under strict conditions to ensure that it remains naturally gluten free. Our flour has numerous health benefits and a little goes a long way.

Resistant starch passes all the way through the small intestine without being digested, thus acting like fibre, sweeping the digestive system. When it reaches the colon it’s used by the bacteria there as fuel, producing a healthy type of fat, which protects colon cells, promoting good bacteria and suppressing bad. It helps with bowel regularity and causes less storage of fat in the body from food. Resistant starch is a great addition to the diabetic diet as not only does it improve insulin sensitivity, there is improved tolerance of insulin the next day. Resistant starch can help greatly with mineral absorption, especially calcium and magnesium.

What is Sukrin?

Sukrin Zero Carb Zero Calorie Natural Sweetener is purely made from the natural polyol erythritol derived from GM-Free corn starch. It contains no artificial colours, additives or preservatives, and is naturally gluten-free. Sukrin Sweeteners are non-glycemic.

The bread does not contain flour - so what is it made from?

Sukrin bread is made not from traditional flours, but a unique high quality mix of plant fibres and proteins, lots of delicious seeds and kernals, some flax seed meal, healthy mineral salt, some raising agents and a touch of Sukrin sweetness. Our bread contains no artificial additives, colours or preservatives. All our products are made with non-GMO ingredients.

The bread doesn`t contain yeast. What makes it rise?

The raising agents in our bread mix are Sodium Bicarbonate, and Disodium Phosphate.

Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3) commonly called baking soda is a natural substance used in the human body within the bloodstream to regulate pH as a counterbalance to acid build up, which is critical to life. It affects the pH of cells and tissues, balances cell voltage, and increases CO2 which helps with oxygenation. It is also used as a raising agent in cooking.

Disodium Phosphate is often used to add texture to gluten free goods. Phosphates (there are 7 varieties; disodium phosphate is one of those) are used in medicine to treat high calcium levels in the blood, low phosphorous levels, and calcium-based kidney stones.

Phosphorous occurs naturally in animal-based foods (meat, milk, eggs, fish), nuts, and legumes, and is used in the body, along with calcium, to add structure and strength to our bones and teeth.

Can I make Sukrin bread in a bread machine?

Sukrin bread mix is so easy to make that there really is no need to use as bread machine. However if you do, simply use a ´bake` setting, one that doesn´t have a kneading or proving stage, referring to Manufacturers manual..

What size tin should I use if I don`t have a foil tray?

A 1lb (500g) loaf tin will be perfect, be sure to line it with parchment paper before adding the mix. You can also bake directly on a baking tray, again on some baking paper, in any shape you like. You can also shape into rolls, or try one of our fabulous Sukrin Bread Mix recipe ideas

Why is my bread uncooked in the middle?

Sukrin bread is naturally very springy in texture, and you won´t find it bakes in the same way as regular bread. However, if you have cooked your bread for the correct amount of time, and it doesn´t seem cooked, firstly check the temperature of your oven with an oven thermometer. If the temperature is as it should be, try baking the mix divided into rolls, or as a flatter freeform loaf on a baking sheet lined with paper.

Why won`t my bread rise?

If you find that your bread will not rise as much as you would like in your oven, next time try adding a little more water to the mix. Sukrin Bread Mix is made from natural ingredients, whose absorbency may vary.

How long does the bread last?

Sukrin bread, well wrapped, will last in the fridge for up to 5 days, or can be frozen.

Does Sukrin bread freeze?

Sukrin bread freezes really well. Just slice, freeze and defrost by popping in the toaster.

Can I toast Sukrin bread?

Sukrin bread is delicious toasted.

Can I use Sukrin Bread Mix as a base for other bread recipes?

Absolutely! Sukrin Bread mix makes the perfect base for hundreds of bread based recipes, from pizza to wraps, from burger buns to focaccia!

Does Sukrin bread contain any allergens?

What are the net carbs of Sukrin bread?

´Net Carbs´ are the total carb content of a product, less the dietary fibre and sugar alcohol if present, as these are carbs that have minimal effect on the blood sugar. The ´net carb´ total is used by lots of people who follow a low carb lifestyle.

The net carb content per 100g of Sukrin bread is only 3.6g, as specified on the pack - the fibre has already been deducted and is specified separately

With 1.1g carbohydrate per slice (30g), and net carbs of zero, our bread is a perfect addition to your diabetic healthy eating plan.

Sukrin bread has been developed by Norwegian scientists with specially selected ingredients including seeds, plant fibres and proteins and our own special resistant corn starch Sukrin Fibrefine, to be exceptionally low in calories and carbohydrates but very high in fibre, which makes it different from regular wheat bread.

Reviews

Can't believe it's low carb & gluten free!

Sukrin Bread Mix
Have just made the first loaf (bought the 1Kg pack as it's cheaper per loaf). This smells, tastes and feels like REAL BREAD! I've had real (wheat) bread that wasn't anywhere near as good as this is. And no wheat! GOOD STUFF. Very highly recommended and one of those products you hope stays around forever.

This bread is really good, such a change from the usual free-from or other special diet products. It is so easy to make too - absolutely foolproof.

Excellent bread with hardly any carbs

Sukrin Bread Mix
Dead easy to make; it tastes great; and best of all, it's only 2.5% carbohydrate (1 gram per slice)! No other bread comes near to that level.

Good no carb bread

Sukrin Bread Mix
What a good bread mix, so easy it even comes with its own pan for backing although it is a little small but Amazon does seem to be the cheapest.

Great product

Sukrin Bread Mix
Was a little sceptical about this bread, but thought I'd give it a go. I don't have a proper functioning oven at the moment, so made some mini bread rolls from the mix in my cupcake maker. haha. I couldn't wait to drive to my sister's to collect her bread maker, so thought I'd improvise. It worked!!! Then it on to the taste experiment and it tastes really good. I'd highly recommend if you like a seeded loaf. It's pricey and so I will have to be a little selective on when I purchase this product, but I've missed bread so much and these little rolls I've made will be great for breakfast.

Great bread substitute

Sukrin Bread Mix
It was incredibly easy to make, and tastes good, considering that it is not "bread" in the strict sense. I bought it because I don't eat wheat, but this bread has the advantage of the low carbs and really makes you feel full. I am buying more!

Excellent product

Sukrin Bread Mix
Very good taste! It does not taste like an 1 gram carbs per slice! I sliced them and put them in the freezer. Just delicious!

Yummy and fresh!

Sukrin Bread Mix
The bread was not a typical gluten-free sort, but was fluffy and well complemented by butter, ham, sweet spreads... ANYTHING!

Lovely nutty flavour and low carb.

Sukrin Bread Mix
I love this bread. I follow a low carb diet so I don't eat many carbs. This bread is the answer to my prayers and it's so full of healthy ingredients. I can have sandwiches and toasties again. It's fab!

A winner for me

Sukrin Bread Mix
Being on a very low carb keto diet I have missed bread more than anything then I found this. In some ways it is similar to Vogel bread but a bit saltier and slightly more spongey in texture. More importantly I can have toast and sandwiches again. It's very filling so the small loaf goes a long way. The mix comes with it's own baking tin so no need to wash up either :) It's not like normal bread. You add water, mix, wait three minutes then pop it in the oven. Really simple. ...........I can see me getting a loaf a week just so I can have a more conventional breakfast.
