What is Sukrin:1?

Sukrin:1 is a Zero Carb Zero Calorie Natural Sweetener, purely made from the natural polyol erythritol, which is derived from GM-Free corn starch. It contains no artificial colours, additives or preservatives, and is naturally gluten free. All Sukrin Sweeteners are non-glycemic.



How is Sukrin:1 made?

Sukrin:1 is erythritol, which is a polyol. Polyols are carbohydrates that have no effect on blood sugar. To make Sukrin:1, we ferment glucose from Non-GMO corn starch with a natural culture, much like the process used in the production of cheese and yoghurt. Sukrin:1 has no effect whatsoever on blood sugar. Sweetness has come a long way.



Is Sukrin:1 natural?

Sukrin:1 is purely made from the natural polyol erythritol derived from GM-Free corn starch. It contains no artificial colours, additives or preservatives, and is naturally gluten-free.

Is Sukrin:1 a carbohydrate?

Yes and no. Erythritol is technically a carbohydrate, but it does not behave like regular carbohydrates such as sugar and starch. Erythritol is not used as energy in the body, but excreted unused in the urine. You do not need to take into account erythritol when calculating your intake of carbohydrates. Therefore, Sukrin:1 is very well-suited for all low-carb diets and for all those that would like to avoid unnecessary carbohydrates.



Is Sukrin:1 ok for diabetics?

With zero calories and carbohydrates, Sukrin:1 is safe for diabetics. Sukrin:1 has no effect on the blood sugar.



What are sugar alcohols?

Sugar alcohols are a type of carbohydrate called "polyols". Part of their chemical structure resembles sugar, and part of it resembles alcohol -- hence the confusing name. Sugar alcohols occur naturally in plants. Some of them are extracted from plants, and some from sugars and starches. Though the word "alcohol" is part of their name, they have no effect on your blood sugar alcohol level, unlike regular alcohol.



What are the benefits of Erythritol?

Not to be confused with artificial sweetener, Erythritol is a naturally occurring sugar alcohol, also known as a polyol. Found naturally in some plants, vegetables and even the human body, it has been found to be safe as a sugar substitute even when consumed daily and in high amounts. Erythritol is non-calorific - while most sugar alcohols like Xylitol have some calories, erythritol has zero and is non-glycemic. Erythritol is easier than other sugar alcohols to digest, some being absorbed in the small intestine, and the rest being excreted in the urine - very little reaches the colon so it´s unlikely to cause stomach problems like some other sugar alcohols. It is non-carcinogenic, and also has antioxidant properties.



Is Sukrin:1 the same as fructose?

No. Fructose is a type of sugar with 400 calories per 100g, just like regular sugar (sucrose). Sukrin:1 is not sugar and contains no calories.



Is Sukrin:1 suitable for people following an anti Candida diet?

Sukrin:1 does not provide a growing medium for yeasts, which makes it perfect for sufferers of Candida Albicans.



Is Sukrin:1 suitable for people following a low FODMAP diet?

Erythritol is a 4 carbon polyol, that is mostly absorbed via the small intestine into the bloodstream. It is not fermented in the colon and is unlikely to cause intestinal distress. Therefore, it may be well tolerated by those following a low FODMAP diet.



Is there proof that erythritol is safe?

A critical and thorough study of all conditions surrounding erythritol was put together in 1998. Nothing negative could be found.


Here are the conclusions of the 36-page study:
The large body of published data supports the conclusion that the intake of erythritol would not be expected to cause adverse effects in humans under the conditions of its intended use in food. The available studies demonstrate that erythritol is readily absorbed, is not systemically metabolized, and is rapidly excreted unchanged in the urine. Moreover, erythritol occurs endogenously and naturally in the diet. Both animal toxicological studies and clinical studies have consistently demonstrated the safety of erythritol, even when consumed on a daily basis in high amounts. Based on the entire safety data package on erythritol, it is concluded that erythritol is safe for its intended use in food.

How do I replace the sugar in recipes with Sukrin:1?

Can I use Sukrin:1 in yeast cookery?

Sukrin:1 is not sugar, so will not activate yeast like regular sugar will. Add a teaspoon of sugar or honey to start off your yeast if you need to, and use Sukrin:1 to replace the rest of the sugar in the recipe.



Can I use Sukrin:1 in all my cooking and baking?

Sukrin:1 can be used wherever you would normally use regular brown sugar. Take a look at our recipes for some inspiration!!

Where can I use Sukrin:1?

Sukrin:1 can be used everywhere you normally use sugar. Use Sukrin:1 on fruit and berries, cereal, porridge, in tea and coffee, in smoothies, in jam or everywhere else you want to replace sugar. Sukrin:1 withstands heat and can therefore also be used for cooking and baking. Sukrin:1 and sugar have the same volume, so 100ml Sukrin:1 is equivalent to 90g.



How can I use Sukrin:1 for my own recipes?

When using Sukrin:1 in your own recipes, there are some things you should bear in mind to achieve optimal results. The amount of Sukrin:1 used should not exceed one fifth or approx 20% of the total ingredients. Example: In a dough of 1kg, 100g Sukrin:1 should be used. This amounts to 10% of the total weight, and works very well. If the recipe uses a lot of sugar, you can use some other sweetening in addition to Sukrin:1, for example, honey or brown sugar. If you are unsure, we recommend trying first with half/half Sukrin:1 and sugar.

Sukrin:1 is absorbed quickly in the small intestine and is not metabolized in the body. It is not fermented in the large intestine. This means that Sukrin:1 does not contain any energy, nor does it cause the digestive discomfort experienced with other sugar alcohols like xylitol, isomalt and maltitol. Human gut microbiota does not ferment erythritol

Excellent delivery, arrived within 2 days of order. Found I have to use rather a lot of product to achieve the degree of sweetness, but still good.
